My work as a scultptor has progressed in parallel with my life. Conscious of a need to amplify my sources of information. I left my native Uruguay in 1985 along with my wife and son, came to Europe, settling in Spain because of its cultural proximity.
Once installed in Valencian mediterranean I began a sculptural work in mixed media based on the recycling of materials (woods, metals, fragments of objects). This work progressed from its figurative roots to a more conceptual aesthetic and a new proposal involving space and spectator which led to my investigating mold-making and modelling with plaster and sparto. The outcome of this period was that I received the XXVI Bancaja Prize for Sculture –one of the most prestigious awards in Spain- for a work of an intimist nature, and I also exhibited my most ambitious piece at that time: an installation conceived as an environment, in the Punto Gallery, one of Valencia’s galleris with the most presence in international art fairs (Bassel, Chicago, FIAC, ARCO, Dokumenta Kassel, etc). Subsequently, in the search for new methods of expression, I completed a welding course which led my attending a vocational training course in iron forging.
My intention is to consolidate a vocational path into a professional experience of dialogue between the world of ideas and the relationship with materials which adapt themselves to their ideological positions. I aspire to relate life and art as a clear statement of a personal commitment which would manifest itself in practical form as sculpture exibited to the pubic.
